An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Soft Furnishings Project Manager, Curtain Project Manager or Upholstery Project Manager to join an established, family-run specialist in luxury curtains, window treatments and soft furnishings, based at their own workshop in Battersea, London (SW11).
Our client works hand in hand with leading interior designers on high-end and super-prime residential projects across London and the South East. The interior designer takes the brief from the homeowner and passes the curtains and soft furnishings element of the scheme to our client, supplying the design, the brief and the fabric. Our client then makes the curtains, drapery, tracks and rail systems in house in their Battersea workshop, before a dedicated team of installers fits them on site. The business is now growing its soft furnishings offer into cushions, headboards and upholstery.
This is a hands-on project management role for someone who knows curtains, soft furnishings and upholstery inside out. You will own each installation project from the moment the interior designer's brief lands, through measuring, specification, workroom production and scheduling, to overseeing the finished curtain, track and soft furnishings installation on site and signing it off with the designer.
What you'll be doing
- Taking the brief, design and fabric from the interior designer and turning it into a clear project plan, specification and schedule
- Managing every curtain, drapery, soft furnishings and upholstery project from brief through to completed installation
- Attending site surveys and measures, and advising on curtain headings, linings, interlinings, fabric behaviour and make-up
- Specifying and ordering curtain tracks, poles, rail systems, motorised and concealed track systems, brackets and fittings
- Liaising with the Battersea workroom to plan production, check fabric quantities and quality-control the finished curtains, cushions, headboards and upholstered items
- Scheduling and leading the installation team, and overseeing curtain and soft furnishings installs on site to a flawless finish
- Acting as the day-to-day contact for interior designers, main contractors and, where required, homeowners
- Coordinating with other trades on site, managing access, snagging and handover
- Keeping projects on time and on budget, and keeping clear project records from start to finish
What we're looking for
- Proven project management experience in curtains, soft furnishings or upholstery, ideally in high-end or luxury residential interiors
- Hands-on curtain, upholstery or soft furnishings installation experience, this is essential
- Strong fabric knowledge: weights, weaves, pattern matching, linings and interlinings, and how fabrics hang, drape and wear
- Sound technical knowledge of curtain tracks, poles and rail systems, including motorised and concealed tracks
- Experience working with interior designers and delivering to a demanding, detail-led brief
- Confident reading drawings and specifications, measuring accurately and calculating fabric requirements
- Excellent organisation, communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to run several projects at once
- A full UK driving licence and your own transport, travelling between the Battersea workshop and client sites across London and the South East
